Bio-gas:

  • Biogas is also called as marsh gas.
  • It is a renewable source of energy.
  • Biogas can be obtained from organic wastes, municipal wastes, agricultural wastes, food waste and plant materials.
  • It is used in the production of electricity and in drying, cooling and heating purposes.
  • It is also used as a biofuel.

Constitution:

  • The primary constituent of biogas is methane.
  • Biogas contains methane (50-70%), carbon dioxide (25-50%), and smaller amounts of nitrogen (2-8%) trace levels of ammonia, hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen.
  • The biogas is produced by the digestion of organic waste in the anaerobic condition by bacteria.
