Question

The potential energy of the spring when stretched ______.

Open in App
Solution

Potential Energy.

  1. The total external work done on the system is equal to potential energy.
  2. When work is done on a spring its potential energy is increased.
  3. Potential energy of spring is given by P.E.=12kx2, where P.E. is potential energy of spring, k is spring constant, and x is the spring displacement.
  4. When the spring is stretched, the value of x increases.
  5. As P.E.x, So the potential energy will increase with the increasing stretch of spring.

Hence, the potential energy of the spring when stretched increases.
