How do atoms usually exist in nature?

Open in App
Solution

Atoms:

  1. The tiniest particles of an element, which may or may not exist independently, are called atoms.
  2. Protons, neutrons, and electrons make up atoms.
  3. Aside from noble gases, atoms are naturally chemically reactive.
  4. Typically, there are two types of atoms:

Molecule: The smallest unit of matter, a molecule is made up of two or more atoms and has its own autonomous life.

Ions: Ions are the charged species that are created when a neutral gaseous atom gains or loses an electron.

Thus, molecules or ions are the most common forms in which atoms may be found.
