The unit of momentum is Kg ms-1.
Momentum and it’s unit
The momentum, p of an object is defined as the product of its mass, m and velocity, v. Momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity. That is,
Momentum has both direction and magnitude. Its direction is the same as that of velocity, v. The SI unit of momentum is kilogram-metre per second (kg ms-1).
- Linear momentum is defined as the product of a system’s mass multiplied by its velocity.
- The quantity of rotation of a body, which is the product of its moment of inertia and angular velocity, is called angular momentum.
