The S.I. unit of momentum is:

The unit of momentum is Kg ms-1.

Momentum and it’s unit

The momentum, p of an object is defined as the product of its mass, m and velocity, v. Momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity. That is,

P=mv

Momentum has both direction and magnitude. Its direction is the same as that of velocity, v. The SI unit of momentum is kilogram-metre per second (kg ms-1).

  • Linear momentum is defined as the product of a system’s mass multiplied by its velocity.
  • The quantity of rotation of a body, which is the product of its moment of inertia and angular velocity, is called angular momentum.
