What does the term open circuit mean?

1. A circuit in which the continuity is broken due to which the electric current can not flow is known as the open circuit.
2. In an open circuit, the current flowing is zero, thus no power dissipates from an open circuit.
3. As shown in the figure above, an open circuit can have a load and a power source. There is a discontinuity in the connection and hence no current flows.
