Question

To which type of fluid is Bernoulli's theorem applicable?

Open in App
Solution

Bernoulli's theorem:

  1. Bernoulli's equation is applicable to ideal fluids, which are incompressible, irrotational, inviscid, and subject to conservative forces.
  2. It is sometimes valid for the flow of gases: provided that no kinetic or potential energy is transferred from the gas flow to the compression or expansion of the gas.
  3. Bernoulli’s principle states that the total mechanical energy of the moving fluid comprising the gravitational potential energy of elevation, the energy associated with the fluid pressure, and the kinetic energy of the fluid motion, remains constant.
  4. It can be written as p+12ρv2+ρgh=constant.

Hence, Bernoulli's theorem is applicable to ideal fluids.
