Question

Two bulbs one of 50watts and another of 25watts are connected in series to the mains. Find the ratio of the currents through them.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Power of bulbs,

P1=50wattsP2=25watts

Step 2: To find

We have to find the ratio of current through the bulbs.

Step 3: Calculation

We know the formula,

P=VI=I2R

or,

P1P2=V1IV2I

Here,

P is the power.

V is the voltage.

I is the current.

R is the resistance.

‘I’ will be constant here. I is current.

As the bulbs are in series the same current flows through each of them.

Therefore, the ratio will be 1:1.
