Solution

Virtual Image:

  1. A virtual image is formed by the apparent intersection of the light rays.
  2. An image is defined in optics as the collection of focus points of light rays emanating from an object.
  3. A real image is a collection of focus points formed by converging rays, whereas a virtual image is a collection of focus points formed by diverging ray extensions.
  4. A real image is formed by the actual intersection of the light rays.
  5. Since the virtual images are caused by fictitious rays, they are drawn with broken lines.
  6. An illustrative image of a virtual image is shown below.

The image shows that the virtual image is formed by the apparent intersection of the light rays. The rays from the object strike the convex mirror and get reflected and the image is formed by extending the reflected light rays till they intersect.
