Question

What are dimensional constants?

Open in App
Solution

Dimensional constant:

  1. A dimensional constant is a physical quantity that has dimensions and, has a fixed value.
  2. Examples of these constants include gravitational constants, electrostatic force constants, and so on.
  3. The universal gravitational constant (G) is a formula that relates the magnitude of the gravitational attractive force between two bodies to their masses and distance apart. Its worth is extremely difficult to quantify experimentally.
  4. The coulomb constant, also known as the electric force constant or the electrostatic constant (abbreviated k, or K), is a proportionality constant in electrostatic equations.

Example of dimensional constant:

Planck’s constant (h): [ML2T-1]

Universal gravitational constant (G): [M-1L3T-2]
