Human Brain:

  1. The adult brain consists of three major parts: Forebrain, Midbrain, and Hindbrain.
  2. The forebrain consists of the olfactory lobes, the cerebrum, and the diencephalon.

Olfactory lobes:

  1. The olfactory lobes are a pair of short club-shaped structures in the brain's anterior part.
  2. It is involved in olfaction, or sense of smell.

The function of olfactory lobes:

  1. Smell perception is controlled by the olfactory lobe.
  2. They're especially common in dogfish and other animals that rely on their senses.
  3. Increasing the sensitivity of odor detection.
  4. Removing a lot of background odors to increase the transmission of a few distinct odors
  5. Allowing smell detection and discrimination to be influenced by higher brain regions involved in arousal and attention.
