Public Facilities – Important Characteristic

An important characteristic of public facilities is:

  • Its benefits can be shared by many people in an area, for example, if electricity is provided in an area, many people can use it for various purposes, a farmer can use it for irrigation purposes and a student can use it for studying.
  • Another example of shared benefits is if a school in a village will provide education to all the children in the village.

Public Facilities – Responsibility of Government

  • It is the responsibility of the Government to provide Public facilities.
  • It is because even though public facilities can be provided by private players, they won’t be able to sustain themselves without taking into account the profits. Hence, the facilities provided by them will not be affordable for everyone.
  • Hence it is imperative that the Government provide the necessary public facilities.
  • Our constitution guarantees the Right to Life to everyone living in the country. It means basic needs of people must be met. The Basic needs of people are connected to public facilities. Hence public facilities must be provided by the government.
