Connective tissue:

  1. Connective tissues connect and support other body tissues and organs.
  2. There are three forms of connective tissue: loose connective tissue, specialized connective tissue, and dense connective tissue.

Cartilage:

  1. It is a specialized connective tissue.
  2. The cartilage intercellular substance is firm and flexible, resisting compression.
  3. Chondrocytes (cartilage cells) are encased in little cavities within the secrete matrix.
  4. They are of three types - Hyaline, Elastic, and Fibro cartilage.
  5. In adults, cartilage can be found in the outer ear joints, between adjacent spinal column bones, the tip of the nose, limbs, and hands.

Examples of cartilage:

  1. The discs between the vertebrae contain fibro cartilage.
  2. The larynx, nose, and ribs all contain hyaline cartilage.
  3. The ear contains elastic cartilage.
