What are the different techniques used for measurement?

Open in App
Solution

Measurement techniques:

  1. Direct method: The value of a quantity is immediately derived by comparing the unknown to the standard. Direct measurement involves measuring the same amount that you wish to measure.
  2. Indirect method: Indirect measurement involves measuring another quantity and determining the needed value using a mathematical connection.
  3. Comparative method: The measurable number or amount is compared to the known value of the same quantity.
  4. Substitution method: The value of the quantity to be evaluated is replaced with the known value of a similar quantity throughout this technique.
  5. Null method: The quantity to be evaluated or analyzed is compared to a known quantity, and the difference between the two is rendered zero, — in other words the indicator shows a zero reading.
  6. Fundamental method: The measurement is determined by measuring the base quantities required to define the quantity.
