Question

What are the properties of capacitors?

Open in App
Solution

Capacitor:

A device for conserving electrical energy that consists of two insulated conductors throughout close enough proximity is known as a capacitor.

The S.I unit of the capacitor is “farad”.

Properties of capacitor:

  1. Working voltage: That would be an essential capacitor property that would be characterized as the greatest continuous voltage that might have been delivered to a capacitor before it malfunctions or degrades.
  2. Tolerance: A capacitor's tolerance would be specified by plus or negative (-) values. These figures are being utilized to indicate a capacitor's proportion for greater levels.
  3. Working temperature: As even the dielectric property varies, the temperature fluctuates, affecting the capacitance value. The operating temperature of the capacitor ranges from -30°Cto +125°C.
  4. Temperature coefficient: A capacitor's temperature coefficient is generally calculated by determining the largest change throughout capacitance over a certain temperature interval.
