What are the properties of matter waves?

Open in App
Solution

Matter waves:

A wave is associated with each moving particle which is called a matter-wave.

A wave transports information or energy in the manner of signals from one point towards another, although no tangible thing travels with it.

Properties of Matter waves:

  1. Matter waves do not have electromagnetic properties.
  2. The electron microscope would be constructed on de-Broglie waves.
  3. The likelihood of locating a particle in spacetime is represented by a matter-wave.
  4. The charge of a material component has no effect on matter waves.
  5. Even though matter waves may travel throughout a vacuum, they are not mechanical waves.
  6. Matter waves' phase velocity could be larger than that of the speed of light.
