Red Phosphorus:

  • Red phosphorus is formed by heating white phosphorus at 573K in an inert atmosphere.
  • When red phosphorus is heated under high pressure, a series of phases of black phosphorus is formed.

Properties of Red phosphorus:

  • It is odorless as well as non-poisonous.
  • It is insoluble in water H2O/Carbon disulfideCS2.
  • Red phosphorus does not glow in dark.
