What Happens In A Chemical Reaction?

A chemical reaction is usually accompanied by physical effects that are easily observed, such as heat and light emissions, precipitation formation, gas evolution, or colour change.

Chemical reaction

A chemical reaction is when the bonds are broken within reactant molecules, and new bonds are formed within product molecules to form a new substance.

  • The chemical reaction releases heat energy it is called an exothermic reaction. If the chemical reaction absorbs energy it is called an endothermic reaction.
  • Chemical equations can be made more concise and useful if we use formulas instead of words. Compounds, called reactants, react with each other in a chemical reaction to create various combinations, called products.

Process of reaction

Two or more compounds react to form a product. The raw products are called reactants and the end compounds are called products.

The reactants are on the left-hand side whereas products formed on the right-hand side are connected by one-headed or two-headed arrows. For example, a reaction

A + B → C + D

Here, A and B are the reactants, which react to form the products C and D.

Types of reaction

On the basis of the product formed, different types of reactions are
