Solution

Algebraic expression.

An algebraic expression is a combination of terms using the arithmetic operations like Addition+, Subtraction-, Multiplication×, Division÷. For example: 9x+5, here the expression has two terms 9x,5 y is the variable and 9 is the coefficient of the variable y and 5 is the constant term.

Types of algebraic expressions on the basis of number of terms:

  1. Monomial - consisting only one non-zero term. For example: 2x
  2. Binomial - consisting two non-zero terms. For example: 2x+5
  3. Polynomial - consisting more than one non-zero terms with positive integral exponents. For example: 2x+5xy+6
  4. Multinomial- Consisting one or more terms, here the exponents of variables can be either positive or negative. For example: 9x-2+3z+7.

Thus, an algebraic expression is a combination of terms using the arithmetic operations like Addition+, Subtraction-, Multiplication×, Division÷.
