What is an electric switch?

The switch is a simple device used to either break the electric circuit or complete it.

Electric switch

The most common form of the electric power switch is a basic manual electromechanical unit. A switch is said to be in ON position when it makes or completes the circuit and allows the current to pass through. Similarly, a switch is in an OFF position when it breaks the circuit and does not allow the current to pass through. The most common form of the electric power switch is a basic manual electromechanical unit.

Categories of switches

  • Single Pole: It controls just one circuit.
  • Double Pole: Double Pole electric switches control to separate circuits.
  • Three-Way: Using three-way switches, light can be control from two different locations.
  • Four Way: A four-way switch has four terminals
  • Multi-location switch: It is the interconnection of two or more electrical switches used to control an electrical load from multiple locations.
  • Dimmer switch: It allows you to turn the light in several subtle shades.

Importance of electric switches

  • Electric switches are significant because all the equipment we are using is useless without a switch.
  • It is used to connect and break the flow of connectivity.
