Solution

Nutrition:

Nutrition is the process of eating food and absorbing the nutrients it contains.

Nutrition in amoeba:

  1. An Amoeba's nutrition is accomplished by phagocytosis, a process in which the entire organism engulfs the food it intends to consume.
  2. Holozoic nutrition is the mode of nourishment in amoebae.
  3. It consists of three steps; the consumption, digestion, and elimination of food.

Consumption:

  1. Pseudopodia are fingerlike extensions produced by Amoeba.
  2. With the assistance of pseudopodia, Amoeba captures food particles.
  3. The food particle is then taken in by Amoeba, along with some water.
  4. After eating the food particle, the Amoeba forms a food vacuole.

Digestion:

  1. In the food vacuole, enzymes are released for digestion.
  2. After digestion, nutrients might enter the cytoplasm by osmosis.
  3. Numerous cellular processes include the usage of nutrients.

Egestion:

  1. Egestion occurs when a food vacuole approaches the cell membrane to dump its contents outside the cell.
  2. As a result, waste materials are ejected from the cell.
