What is stock and scion in grafting?

Scion is the detached living part of the plant which is grafted to the stalk by the process of grafting. Grafting is the act of placing a portion of one plant (bud or scion ) into or on a stem, root, or branch of another. A rooted stem into which a scion or a bud is grafted is called a stock which is the part of the combination that provides the root.
