Taxonomic hierarchy:

  1. It is the process of aligning different organisms into consecutive levels of the biological classification either in an increasing or decreasing order from species to kingdom and vice versa.
  2. Each level of the hierarchy is known as the rank or the taxonomic category.
  3. The taxonomic hierarchy from general to specific is domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.
