  5. The nitrogenous base Adenine is attached to the first carbon of ribose sugar.
  6. The three phosphate groups are attached in a chain to the 5th carbon of the pentose sugar.
  7. The actual source of energy that the cell uses is the triphosphate tail of ATP. The phosphate bonds between them hold the available energy, which is released when they are broken or divided into molecules.
  8. ATP molecule provides energy for both the exergonic and endergonic processes.
