What is the GERL System?

Open in App
Solution

GREL System:

  1. Alex B Novikoff discovered the GERL system.
  2. It stands for Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, and lysosomes.

The function of the GREL system:

  1. The Golgi apparatus, Endoplasmic reticulum, and lysosomes make up the GERL system.
  2. The GERL system executes biological functions such as material synthesizing and recycling, endocytosis, and exocytosis.
  3. The endoplasmic reticulum secretes proteins, which are then packed into vesicles by the Golgi apparatus.
  4. It is then transferred outside the cell via exocytosis.
  5. Lysosome production is also aided by the Golgi apparatus.
  6. These lysosomes are then used to break down food particles, remove superfluous and worn-out organelles, and engulf germs and viruses.
