Loam is a blend of sand, silt and clay to include the beneficial properties of each. It has the potential, for example, to maintain moisture and nutrients; it is therefore more appropriate for farming.
Properties of loam
- The soil is also referred to as agricultural soil because it contains a mixture of the soil content of all three kinds of sandy, clay, and silt.
- It occurs that the soil has humus.
- It also has higher calcium and pH levels due to its inorganic nature.
