What is the Palmella stage in euglena?

It is a stage occurring under unfavourable conditions in Euglena. Under unfavourable conditions the flagellum is thrown off and a number of Euglena come together and become embedded in a gelatinous mass on the water surface. Found worldwide, Euglena live in fresh and brackish water rich in organic matter and can also be found in moist soils.Euglenas contain chloroplasts and can produce their own food by photosynthesis.
