Question

What is the reason respiration is considered an exothermic reaction?

Open in App
Solution

Respiration:

Respiration is the motion of oxygen from outside the surroundings to the cells within tissues, as well as carbon dioxide is removed in a reverse way, back to the earth.

Exothermic reaction:

  1. Exothermic processes generate heat, which raises the heat from the surrounding environment.
  2. Examples include ice melting, evaporation, and cooking.
  3. Because heat is produced during the process of respiration, it is an exothermic process. The carbon dioxide in the food breaks down to create glucose during the process.
  4. This glucose reacts with oxygen in our cells, releasing a large amount of energy.
