Rudimentary eye:

  1. These are eyes that did not fully mature throughout the perinatal period.
  2. Rudimentary eyes do not have the eyeball, complicated iris, the cornea is reduced, and other features are not fully developed.
  3. These are not advanced visual organs.
  4. Planaria's eyes are rudimentary.
  5. Photoreceptor proteins that sense light, known as eyespots, were the oldest ancestors of the eye.
  6. The eye only can detect light and dark which are necessary for circadian rhythm and photoperiodism.
  7. They are inadequate for vision and they are unable to identify shapes or determine the direction of light.
  8. These eyes are due to living in dim light or no light habitats of the organisms.
