In the tincture of iodine, the solvent is alcohol and water while the solute is iodine. Tincture of iodine is also known as a weak iodine solution or iodine tincture. Iodine tincture is an antiseptic used to disinfect the wounds. The structure of the iodine tincture is 2 to 7 % of the iodine and the remaining is either Sodium or potassium iodide.
