When does calcium deficiency occurs?

Vitamin D mainly helps in the Ca/P balance of body fluids. It increases absorption of calcium from the intestines, so it is necessary for formation of healthy bones and teeth.
Deficiency of Vitamin D causes an increased loss of calcium ions in urine; thus, calcium ions get deposited in the bones. This causes rickets in children and osteomalacia in pregnant woman.
