When light goes from an optically denser to an optically rarer medium, it always bend ---- the normal

As the light goes from an optically denser to an optically rarer medium, it bends away from the normal. Hence, the angle of refraction is greater than the angle of incidence.

For optically denser medium, the refractive index  is greater than that of the rarer medium . Thus, the angle of refraction has to be greater than the angle of incidence i.e. it bends away from the normal.
