Solution

Answer:

Majuli is the largest inhabited riverine island in the world. It is located in the state of Assam. Majuli island is located on the river Brahmaputra. Majuli is not only the largest inhabited riverine island in the world but also the oldest inhabited riverine island in the world. This island is formed in the mid-river stream. This is a combination of clusters of islets. Majuli district was carved out of Jorhat district.

In India, Majuli was the first island to be made a district. Over time, the size of Majuli island has shrunk. The island has 144 villages with a population of over 150,000 and a density of 300 individuals per square km.

Floods regularly inundate Majuli. Majuli is suitable for growing crops such as potatoes, garlic, jute, pulses, sugarcane, mustard, and paddy.
