Question

Why are villi present in the intestine and not in the stomach?

Open in App
Solution

Villi:

  1. The mucosal wall of the small intestine forms millions of tiny finger-like projections known as villi.
  2. It increases the surface area for more absorption of nutrients.
  3. The small intestine is mainly responsible for the absorption process.
  4. Villi are present in the small intestine to increase the surface area of absorption.
  5. The stomach, on the other hand, is an organ that primarily stores food temporarily, along with helping in digesting proteins.
  6. Hence, the presence of villi is more justified in the small intestine and not in the stomach.
