Question

Why are wheels circular?

Open in App
Solution

Rolling Friction:

  1. Rolling friction occurs when a wheel, ball, or cylinder rolls freely over a surface.
  2. The wheels of cars or automobiles are made circular for the purpose of reducing the frictional force
  3. Because rolling friction is lesser than sliding friction, wheels are designed to be round. If the wheels had been of a different form, sliding friction would have been involved, resulting in increased friction and difficulty in the movement of cars and autos.
