An advantage of asexual reproduction is that it is speedy and develops multiple offspring in very little time.
It produces genetically identical offspring to the parent because the offspring are all clones of the original parent. Asexual reproduction occurs in prokaryotic microorganisms (bacteria) and some eukaryotic single-celled and multi-celled organisms.
- The population can increase rapidly when the conditions are favourable
- only one parent is needed
- it is more time and energy-efficient as you don’t need a mate
- it is faster than sexual reproduction
