Question

Why do bulbs have two terminals?

Open in App
Solution

Electric Bulb:

  1. An electric lamp with a translucent or transparent glass casing is referred to as an electric bulb. It also goes by the name "light bulb."
  2. For the purpose of illumination, this straightforward apparatus has been in use for more than a century.
  3. A device that emits light when electricity is applied is referred to as an electric bulb.

The reason why electric bulbs have two terminals:

  1. The bulbs have two terminals because a circuit can only be complete if it contains both a positive (high potential) and a negative terminal (low potential) such that the current flows from high potential to low potential. The current flow is only permitted when there is a potential difference across the circuit.
  2. If there is only one terminal, it means the circuit is not complete and no current will flow in the bulb. As a result, the bulb will not glow.
  3. A bulb has two terminals: one that sends electricity to the filament and the other that receives it. Every electrical component has two terminals, one for sending electricity to the device and the other for receiving it. There is no way a gadget can have only one terminal.
