Why Do We Need Energy?

Body cells require energy for a vast variety of activities. We need energy for the following reasons:

  • Energy is required to synthesize proteins from amino acids
  • Essential for producing enzymes
  • It is crucial in maintaining the body temperature
  • Required for movement as they bring about contraction of muscles
  • Necessary to conduct electrical impulses in a nerve cell
  • Energy is essential in producing new cells through the process of cell division
