Question

Why is entangled photons' pair difficult to produce?

Open in App
Solution

Entangled photons production:

  1. Spontaneous parametric down-conversion can result in the production of entangled photons (SPDC).
  2. In a process known as spontaneous parametric down-conversion, one higher energy photon, called a pump photon, splits into two lower-energy photons, called a signal photon and an idler photon, in accordance with the rules of momentum and energy conservation.
  3. In quantum optics, it is a critical step toward the development of both entangled photon pairs and single photons.

Entangled photons' pair:

  1. Entangled photon pairs play an important role throughout quantum communication methods spanning from quantum key distribution to teleportation.
  2. It is hard to create an entangled photon pair because these entangled photon pairs are created only when they emit identical photons and are dependent on interdependent quantum states.
  3. However, determining which pair of photons will emit identical photons is more difficult.
  4. Furthermore, because differences in the structures of these photons occur at the microscopic level, resulting in changes in overall emission frequencies, monitoring these photons in the device becomes problematic.
