Question

Why is it advised to drive along the slippery road slowly?

Open in App
Solution

Reduced friction:

  1. Whenever one drives a car on a road, the vehicle is subjected to certain forces. These are gravitational forces caused by the vehicle's weight. The ground's normal reaction.
  2. Drag is the force of air resistance in the opposite direction of motion, as well as the force of friction at the point where the tires make contact with the road.
  3. It is understood that there is an inverse relationship between friction and slipperiness. So, the smoother the road, the lesser the friction.
  4. The tendency of two or more different molecules to bond with each other is known as adhesion, whereas the force of attraction between the same molecules is known as cohesion.

The adhesion forces can be one of the results of electrostatic forces which are exerted on different substances.

Therefore, it is recommended to drive carefully along the slippery road since friction is reduced and there is a risk of skidding if the driver drives too fast.
