Why is the DNA Twisted?

DNA is a double-helical structure tightly packed within the nucleus. It is made up of deoxyribose sugars, nitrogenous bases and phosphate molecules. The twisted shape is due to the interaction of water molecules with that of DNA molecules. The twisted shape helps in the packaging of DNA into chromatin fibres. It also aids in DNA replication and protein synthesis.
