It is a pigment present in the RBC that helps in oxygen binding and gas transport.

The affinity of hemoglobin:

  1. The oxygen affinity of hemoglobin is a continuous relationship between hemoglobin oxygen saturation and oxygen tension.
  2. There are many important factors that affect the affinity of hemoglobin to oxygen.
  3. There are pH, temperature, carbon dioxide, 2,3-BPG, and carbon monoxide, that affect the oxygen binding.
  4. Hemoglobin is found in red blood cells and carries oxygen from the lungs to the tissues in the body.
