Solution

Coniferous forests:

  1. They are predominated by coniferous trees, trees that produce seeds in the shape of cones.
  2. They have needle-like leaves with a waxy covering so that water loss is minimum.
  3. They are broadly divided into two biomes:

I) Temperate Coniferous Forest:

  1. They are found in areas with cool winters, warm summers, and temperate regions, which have heavy rainfall.
  2. These forests are known to have the highest level of biomass as compared to any other terrestrial ecosystem.
  3. Plants like fir, pine, cedar, and redwood are mostly seen here.
  4. They are mostly found in the North American and Eurasian regions.

II) Tropical or subtropical Coniferous Forest:

  1. They are seen in the areas of Northern and Central America.
  2. They prefer low precipitation and slight variation in temperature.
  3. The canopy is bushy and almost zero light can penetrate inside.
  4. It is home to many migratory birds and butterflies.
