Solution

Answer:

India receives nearly 4% of the global precipitation. Many of the cities in India suffer from water scarcity. Indian rivers are massively polluted due to industrialisation, urbanization, agricultural modernisation. Hence all the major rivers like Ganga, Yamuna and even small rivers are polluted. With a growing population there is more demand for water and there is unequal distribution of water. Due to the growing population there is more demand for food, due to which more water is used for production of food. Domestic usage also increases the demand for water. Due to overexploitation of water in the cities due to the presence of large housing societies and due to over irrigation in villages by farmers; the ground water table in India is depleting at a very rapid rate thereby causing water scarcity. India is facing water scarcity from a quantity and quality aspect. Groundwater and river water gets polluted due to excessive use of fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals and industrial wastes. This is another major reason for water scarcity in India as the quality of water gets depleted and humans are not able to use those water resources.
