Capital of Pakistan

Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan. Soon after the partition of India into two countries, Karachi was chosen as the capital of the newly established Pakistan.

• Islamabad became the capital of Pakistan on 14th August 1967.
• Islamabad was a new capital city and the decision to build it was taken by Pakistani military President, Ayub Khan.
• Karachi was the capital of Pakistan till 1959.
• For a brief period, Rawalpindi was chosen as the interim capital of Pakistan.

• Pakistan has the world’s second-largest muslim population.
• Pakistan is the world’s fifth most populous nation.
• Pakistan is the 33rd largest country by area.
• The neighbouring countries of Pakistan are India, Afghanistan, China, and Iran.
• Pakistan was partitioned from India in 1947.
• Muhammad Ali Jinnah is known as the “Father of Pakistan”.
• Many ancient sites of the Indus Valley Civilisation were found in Pakistan.
• The military forces of Pakistan are heavily reliant on help from China.
• Terrorism, poverty, illiteracy, corruption, radicalisation and lack of economic development are some of the major problems faced by Pakistan.
• Many of the terrorists and terror organisations proscribed by the United Nations (UN) are from Pakistan.
• Pakistan has been listed in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list for not curbing terrorism activities emanating from its soil. This has seriously impacted the economy of Pakistan, thereby increasing poverty and misery among the people of Pakistan.
