SBI Po Mains 2017 Paper Analysis And Expected Cut Off

The State Bank of India has conducted their Mains exam for their Recruitment procedure for the post of Probationary Officers. Only the shortlisted students of the Prelims were able to write the Mains exam. With 27 lakhs aspirants filling the application form but only 20 lakh candidates attempting the Preliminary exam. The vacancy for the post of Probationary Officer in SBI is 2,313. Here is a complete review of the SBI PO Mains 2017 exam.

  • The negative marking remains applicable in SBI PO Mains Exam in which 0.25 marks would be deducted for every wrong answer marked.

According to the candidates’ response, the English Language & General Awareness sections were moderate when compared to the questions in the Reasoning and Data Interpretation sections which were difficult. The Reasoning section was lengthy and tricky as per the candidates’ first response after writing the exam.

The section-wise distribution of questions and difficulty:

  • Reasoning and Computer Aptitude:
    • Sitting arrangement – 26 Questions
    • Logical Reasoning – 8 Questions
    • Data Sufficiency – 2 Questions
    • Input Output – 5 Questions

The candidates’ response to this section was that they found this section difficult to solve.

Data Analysis and Interpretation:

    • Data Interpretation – 15 Questions
    • Quantity based problems – 5 Questions
    • Probability – 5 Questions
    • Data Sufficiency – 4 Questions.

Apart from the miscellaneous questions, the candidates’ responded this section to be equally difficult.  

General / Economy / Banking Awareness:

The questions were from current banking affairs and those students who were aware of the current ongoings could answer this section and perform well. When compared to other sections, the candidates found this section to be moderate.

  • English Language:
    • Error detection – 10 Questions
    • Double fillers – 4 Questions
    • Para jumble – 2 Questions.
    • Reading Comprehension – 2 sets each of 5 Questions.

The candidates found this section ranging from moderate to difficult.

  • Descriptive test:
    • Letter Writing – 1
    • Essay Writing – 1

Each of these sections was to be answered with 150 words.

Cut Off Expected

The Cut Off expected for the SBI PO Mains 2017 exam is completely based on the difficulty level of the exam. As analysed the expected cut off is ranging from 68- 70 marks.

The Section wise cutoff is given as follows:

The cut off for the previous year was 70 for the General category and for the other categories it was 60.

June 19 is the expected date for the SBI PO Mains results to be announced. Although it may differ as the Prelims result was announced a day or two in advance. The candidates who clear the Mains exam will be shortlisted for the phase 3 exam that comprises of the Group Exercises and the Interview. The Group Exercise is for 20 marks and the Interview is for 30 marks.

The final section for the recruitment process is done based on the merit list of the marks of phase 2 and 3. The phase two marks will be converted to 75 marks and the phase 3 will be converted to 25 marks and the final merit will be out of 100 marks.
