Overview of BP
High BP is a condition where the heart exerts too much pressure while pumping blood. This condition is diagnosed when the sphygmomanometer has a reading greater than 140 mm Hg by 90 mm Hg.
High blood pressure symptoms usually arise from unhealthy lifestyles, lack of physical activity, obesity etc. High blood pressure can also be inherited from parents to children, physical changes in the body, such as old age can also trigger high bp. This condition is medically known as hypertension.
High BP Symptoms
High blood pressure symptoms will not be obvious right away, sometimes, these symptoms may be attributed to other underlying conditions. Usually, it takes quite a while, sometimes years before significant symptoms start to show up.
High BP symptoms include:
- Severe headaches
- Breathlessness
- Dizziness/ disorientation
- Chest pain
- Nosebleeds
- Stroke, in the most severe cases
Treatment for high bp includes physical exercise, a healthy diet that excludes food high in saturated fats and low in salt, shedding excess weight and limiting alcohol consumption.
