What is BITSAT?

BITSAT stands for the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test. Candidates seeking an admission in the on-campus undergraduate engineering courses offered at any of the three campuses of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani appear for BITSAT. The three campuses of BITS Pilani are located at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.

BITSAT is conducted every year by BITS Pilani by which the deserving candidates are given admission into BITS Pilani’s B.E., B.Pharm and M.Sc. programmes.

BITSAT 2023 Details

BITSAT 2023 is going to be conducted in the computer-based online mode. Candidates need to know a few important points about the BITSAT 2023 examination.

  1. A candidate can appear for BITSAT 2023 for a maximum of two times.
  2. The BITSAT online examination will be conducted in two sets of dates namely: BITSAT 2023 Session 1 and BITSAT 2023 Session 2. Both the Sessions will have a gap of a few weeks. As per his/her convenience, the candidate may select the centre, day and slot for appearing in the examination.
  3. Only those candidates who have applied for Session 1 can apply fpr Session 2 exam. The application forms for Session 2 will open shortly after the end date of Session 1 exam.
  4. For the candidates who appeared for both the sessions of the BITSAT 2023 and are seeking admissions in the First Degree Programmes in BITS Pilani, The higher of the two exam’s score will be considered for admissions.

BITSAT 2023 General Instructions

Some General instructions for the BITSAT 2023 examination are given hereunder.

  1. The medium of paper will be in English Language only.
  2. Candidates must bring a pen for doing the rough work in the exam. A blank sheet of paper will be provided in the examination.
  3. Use of calculators and logarithmic tables is not allowed.
  4. Any personal belongings such as mobile phones, bags and accessories will not be allowed in the examination hall.
  5. Candidates must download the hall ticket and bring it to the exam centre. Only the candidates with the hall tickets will be allowed.
  6. Candidates must bring two passport size photographs to the examination centre.

BITSAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Students who wish to appear for the BITSAT 2023 have to fulfil the eligibility criteria mentioned below.

For Admission to Any of the First Degree programmes of BITS

Aspirants should have passed the class 12th examination from a recognised Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates must have adequate proficiency in English.

Aspirants should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.

For Admission to B.Pharm (Hons)

Aspirants should have passed the class 12th examination from a recognised Central or State board or its equivalent with the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Candidates must have adequate proficiency in English. However, candidates with PCMB in class 12 can also apply for the Pharmacy programme at BITS campuses.

Aspirants should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (and Maths, if they are PCMB students) subjects with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (and Maths, if they are PCMB students) subjects.

Only students who are appearing for the 12th class examination in 2023 or have passed in 2022 are eligible to appear in the BITSAT 2023. Only two attempts are there for the student.

Students already studying in any of the BITS campuses are not eligible for the exam.

Admissions are done purely on a merit basis which is further based on the score a student gets in the examination. However, their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in the 12th examination, as mentioned above.

BITSAT 2023 Direct Admission to Board Toppers

Direct admission is given to the First rank students of all the central and state boards in India for the year 2023, irrespective of their BITSAT score and the choice of their branch is given to them. The toppers are not required to appear for BITSAT.

BITSAT Paper Pattern

Each Session of BITSAT 2023 will consist of four parts and the duration of each exam will be of 3 hours each.

The exam consists of objective-type multiple choice questions. The correct answers carry 3 marks and each wrong answer will be given a negative marking of 1 (-1). The total number of questions in each exam is 130. The distribution of questions for each part of the exam is given hereunder.

Extra Questions

Candidates can take as much time as they require in the individual parts within the stipulated time duration. Candidates can go back and correct any question in any part. However, after attempting all the 130 questions, the candidates may opt for attempting 12 extra questions within the same duration of 3 hours. These questions are given from all the parts of the exam- physics, chemistry, mathematics, english and so on. Once choosing to opt for attempting the 12 extra questions, the candidate will not be able to go back to the previous 130 questions and correct them.

The 130 questions are designed so that they can be completed in a total of 180 minutes. The extra 12 questions are provided so that the meritorious students can score higher in the exam.

BITSAT Application Process

Visit the official website of BITS (www.bitsadmission.com) and register for BITSAT by entering basic details like personal, academic and contact details.

After entering the details students have to upload their photograph along with the signature in the specified format given on the website.

The candidates then have to make the fee payment for the application form filled by them, they can make the application fee payment either online through credit card/ debit card/ online banking or in offline mode.

Students are requested to take the printout of the Application form and save details for future use.

BITSAT Slot Booking for 2023

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani will conduct the slot booking for the students online on the official website. Students will only be issued an admit card once they complete the slot booking process at a specific time.

Step 5 – Test city will be visible to the student.
