CBSE Asks UGC to Conduct NET Exam

The Central Board of Secondary Education asks the UGC(University Grants Commission) to conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET) by itself that is to be held next year as the board aims to focus on its main areas and concentrate on improving the quality of education.

The CBSE chairperson R K Chaturvedi has written to Ved Prakash (UGC chairperson) that it should take over the schedule and process of conducting the examination, according to the officials.

According to HRD officials, the CBSE has expressed a view that it has been handling examinations starting from the entrance to undergraduate courses and recruitments in institutions like UGC-NET and Kendriya Vidyalayas that extends its resources.

“The CBSE’s decision of not conducting UGC-NET from 2017 onwards is strictly based on cogent reasons. The takeover of the NET exam from January 2017 has been conveyed to the UGC, and the Board has to extend technical support if required”, said a CBSE official.
