CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) plan on making three languages as mandatory for class X board exams would likely not happen till 2019-20 as per a source from a board official. Earlier the board had sent a proposal formula to the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) on secondary education as per which the students of class X would have three languages to study that has English as one of the main subjects.
Only the class VIII students are following the formula at present and class X students have two languages to study which includes English. The government does not wish to distract students in the current scheme and wants the proposal to be implemented from 2019-20 onwards. Two Indian languages that are listed in Schedule VIII have to be studied by students as per the new plan and the third language would be English.
For the board exam, the three languages would be counted as main subjects. Students would study one non-listed Indian language or foreign language that would be a non qualifying one as additional subject.
