Languages Not Mandatory Till 2019-2020 for CBSE Class 10 Board Exam

CBSE’s (Central Board of Secondary Education) plans on making three languages mandatory for Class X board exams would likely not happen till 2019-20, as per a source from a board official.  Earlier, the board had sent a proposal formula to the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) on secondary education, as per which the students of Class X would have three languages to study that has English as one of the main subjects.

Only Class VIII students are following the formula at present, and Class X students have two languages to study, which include English. The government does not wish to distract students in the current scheme and wants the proposal to be implemented from 2019-20 onwards. Two Indian languages that are listed in Schedule VIII have to be studied by students as per the new plan, and the third language would be English.

For the board exam, the three languages would be counted as the main subjects. Students would study one non-listed Indian language or foreign language that would be a non-qualifying one as an additional subject.
