Important Announcement Regarding The Next Stages Of National Olympiad Programme

The Olympiad programmes for various subjects like Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Junior Science and Physics are rescheduled due to recent COVID-19 crisis. Here we have provided the complete details on reschedule of National Olympiad Programmes 2020 along with the new exam dates.

National Olympiad Programme – Latest Update

The following decisions are announced by the concerned authority regarding Olympiad programme:

1) Participation in International Olympiad 2020 is subject to all safety-related clearances from the Government of India and the Government of the host country. Safety of the students and that of the mentors during their travel and stay abroad is paramount and these factors will guide the participants in the Olympiad. Further, the selection and training will be dependent on the necessary clearances mentioned above.

2) The tentative schedule for the olympiad examination for various subjects is listed below. However, the dates may be changed with very short notice. The students are requested not to book tickets until the examination schedule is finalised by HBCSE on or before May 1, 2020. While there are efforts made by the concerned authorities to make it possible for maximum number of participants to attend the examination avoiding a clash with other academic interests, it may not be possible to adjust the schedule based on individual requirements.

Tentative Exam Schedule for Olympiad 2020

  • Astronomy: The OCSC Astronomy exam is cancelled. The procedure of selection of the team for the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2020 will be announced by June 30, depending on the status of the international  event at that time. Previously the exam was scheduled to conduct from 9 July 2020 to 15 July 2020.
  • Biology: The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2020 has been cancelled. Consequently, OCSC (Biology) stands cancelled. A decision on Indian participation in any alternative competition proposed by the organisers of IBO 2020, and the necessary selection procedure for it, will be announced by May 15.
  • Chemistry: OCSC (Chemistry) stands cancelled. A final announcement about the nature the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is awaited from the organisers. A decision on Indian participation in the same, and the necessary selection procedure for it, will be announced by May 15.
  • Junior Science: OCSC Junior Science is postponed indefinitely. A suitable announcement about the next stages will be made by HBCSE by June 30.
  • Physics: The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2020 has been cancelled. Consequently, OCSC (Physics) stands cancelled. A decision on Indian participation in any alternative competition that may be proposed by the organisers of IPhO 2020, and the necessary selection procedure for it, will be announced by May 30.

3) The examination schedule mentioned above is under the assumption that the current crises will get better and it will be safe to travel to Mumbai at that time. The examination will be cancelled if that isn’t the case. The schedule is also based on the International Olympiads. If International Olympiads is cancelled then OCSC will also be cancelled. If International Olympiads is rescheduled then OCSC will be rescheduled.

4) The students who have secured more marks in INO than OCSC cutoff will be awarded the certificate of merit by HBCSE.

5) If the authorities are unable to conduct the OCSC examination to select an Indian team for International Olympiad for any of the subjects, then a suitable method of selection will be announced later.
